Joanne Wells lives on the north Antrim coast, where the sea sweeps alongside ancient woodlands, small seaside towns, villages and crumbling castles dot the landscape and provide inspiration for Joanne's art practice.

Joanne is interested in the history of her locality, the old wisdom passed down from each generation, especially regarding botany, trees and medicinal plants. Having her own medicinal garden, she has a continuous supply of plants to use as inspiration for her art, alongside sharing and swapping the plants, seeds and stories.

Harnessing herbs for health, art and living

Joanne has an intrinsic connection to plants, connected through the generations of females who use plants for nurturing and healing. This exploration includes using plant dyes, plants material and other mediums to depict this connection.

The power of nature is what all art strives to be. The more we can get in tune with the harmony of the planet, the more our art can benefit from that relationship.
